Courses held at the Bach Centre
The Bach Centre consists of Mount Vernon, its garden and seminar rooms, our café – Nora’s Kitchen – and the Bach Centre shop. The courses held at the Bach Centre give students a wonderful opportunity to study where Dr. Bach lived and worked during the last years of his life and where, having found the last 19 of the 38 remedies in the area, he completed his work.
While you are on the course you will have the opportunity to explore the Mount Vernon house, a living museum, where you will find Dr. Bach’s hand-made furniture, original tinctures, writings, photographs and more; a walk through time from the beginnings of his discovery to how his work and life at the Bach Centre has evolved since 1934 when he settled here. You will also have time to wander in the garden which surrounds the house and where several of the Bach remedy flowers grow, blooming at different times of the year from early Spring through to Autumn.
Our Level 1, 2 and 3 course teachers at Mount Vernon are all highly experienced, not only in their own modalities and practices, but also as Bach flower practitioners, trainers, mentors and assessors. They have all been working as Bach Foundation Registered Practitioners for some 30 years and are among our first and most experienced Bach Centre Teachers. You can therefore be assured of thorough and accurate information as you embark on your Bach journey.
Level 1: A two-day course which aims to cover all the basic principles of Dr. Bach’s work. We will cover the indications for each of the 38 remedies, the history of Dr.Bach’s discoveries, his philosophy of healing and the methods and principles of simplicity which form the foundation of the system.
Day 1: The 38 remedies are explained through Dr. Bach’s seven group headings, across the two days. This will include group discussions and exercises to help to reinforce what you have learned at each stage. Day 1 will also cover dosage and how to prepare a treatment mix. At the end of Day 1 there will be a homework exercise to prepare for Day 2 when it will inform a group discussion in the morning.
Day 2: After the exercise that you were set for homework, we will complete the last of the group headings along with discussions and group work to practise what you know. Day 2 will cover the history of Dr Bach’s work, his medical discoveries and the work of the Bach Centre. You will learn how the remedies can fit into your life and how they can be of help to animals and plants as well as yourself, your friends and family as an aid to emotional wellbeing.
There will be plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the two days, and opportunities to meet and chat with the Bach Centre Team.
By the end of Level 1 you will leave with a good basic understanding of the system and how to use the Bach Flowers as a natural part of everyday life.
- You can book a Level 1 course at the Bach Centre here.
Level 2: A two-day course which aims to consolidate your remedy knowledge, explore the relevance of Dr. Bach’s philosophy to you personally, and give you the opportunity to exchange views and experiences with fellow students. The course will cover the subtle differences between similar remedies to provide a solid understanding of the remedies and provide you with more confidence in your remedy knowledge, and equip you to progress to the Level 3 practitioner training.
Day 1: After introductions and a recap of the practical use of the remedies, we will then look at the subtle differences between certain remedies and comparisons with those that have similar indications. These sessions are interspersed with exercises and discussions within small breakout groups and also as feedback sessions within the whole group. At the end of Day 1 there will be a homework exercise to prepare for Day 2 when it will inform a group discussion in the morning.
Day 2: After the remedy selection exercise that you were set as homework, we will cover Dr. Bach’s philosophy and other beliefs, and then go on to further group work which will provide more opportunities to think about the subtle differences and why you would choose one remedy over another, or how you would apply remedies to given situations. After lunch there is group work to practise your listening skills and help you phrase your questions to find the most appropriate remedies for someone who needs help in their selection.
There will be plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the two days, and opportunities to meet and chat with the Bach Centre Team.
By the end of Level 2 you will leave having had the opportunity to build on your understanding of the Bach flower system so that you not only have more confidence to help yourself and your family, but also the gateway to the practitioner Level 3 training.
- If you have completed an approved Level 1 course, you can book a Level 2 course at the Bach Centre here.
Level 3: This is the practitioner level of training and takes place over 4 days focusing on the skills involved in facilitating a Bach remedy consultation and the standards required of a practitioner registered with the Bach Centre. Whilst the remedy indications form an essential part of the practitioner course as a whole (i.e. Levels 1, 2 and 3), along with group work and discussions, it is assumed that students have a sound knowledge of the system before they embark on Level 3. This is so that the course teacher can devote time to the use of the remedies as a practitioner in professional practice.
To this end, approximately two weeks before the course commences, students will be sent a question paper to test their knowledge of the 38 remedies and their application. Your answers will form a key part of the course so please come prepared. On the fourth day, you will do a second exercise comprising of more in-depth questions to test your knowledge further. Your teacher will take the completed papers way to inform a report for the Assessment.
There will be plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the course days, and opportunities to meet and chat with the Bach Centre Team. The course is fullly catered over the four days, and the course fee includes drinks throughout the day, sweet treats in the morning and a light but three-course lunch. (You can view the main course menu by following the link via the ‘Visting the Centre’ tab.
Following the four day course, it will be time for you to begin the Assessment process. You will need to find willing clients who are not close friends or relatives, and film your initial consultation with at least two new clients. You will also have a viva voce with your Assessor who will provide feedback on your consultation, remedy knowledge and consultation technique, and where any gaps in knowledge, misunderstandings or issues can be addressed. You will also be required to submit a Reflective essay which is your chance to express how you have felt during the course process, how you feel and have felt seeing real clients, and your responses to any feedback you have been given. Details of all of this will be provided at the end of the Classroom part of the course.
At any stage of the Assessment process you may be required to submit further work. You will have opportunities to resolve any issues that may arise, but if you are required to submit a third filmed case study it will be your final submission to determine whether or not you have completed the course successfully. To allow for this and/or other unforeseen circumstances, you will have a total of 18 months to complete all the Level 3 work. Embarking on Level 3 is exciting and rewarding but it does require time and commitment to satisfactorily complete it and be eligible to apply for registration. We also ask all potential students to further prepare for Level 3 by booking a consultation with a BFRP as this provides insight into the consultation both from the practitioner’s and the client’s perspective.
- If you have completed an approved Level 2 course, you can book a Level 3 course at the Bach Centre here.
